
MUNICIPAL PHYSICAL
PLANNING OFFICER MEETS WITH TUMU TRADITIONAL AREA ON DEVELOPMENT CONTROL IN THE
MUNICIPALITY
On
the 10th of May, 2021, a team of staff from the Physical Planning Department
of the Sissala East Municipal Assembly had a meeting with the Paramount Chief of
Tumu Traditional Area, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI to discuss matters of
enforcement of the development controls, permitting and permitting processes as
well as alienation of lands for residential, commercial, industrial and other
related uses.
This
was in response to the continuous increase of unauthorized structures on
unauthorized areas within the Municipality. The team educated the Chief and his
Elders and all members present on the provisions of the law such as Land Use
and Spatial Planning Act of 2016, Act 925, and Local Governance Act 2016, Act
936 and Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulations 2016 LI2384 especially
sections 113 to 118 of Act 925, 106 and 107 of Act936 and section 197 of
LI2384.
As
part of the meeting, some residents indicated that there is continuous increase
of temporal structures; commonly called
‘container” on access areas within the town and therefore urged the Physical
Planning Department and by extension the Municipal Planning Authorities take
steps to remove all such structures as provided by law. Responding to that, the
Physical planning officer, assured the Chief and his Elders of the department
Commitment to ensuring that the planning objectives within the Municipality
area achieved and that, all affected persons have already been served with
demolition notice prior to the meeting and therefore called for their support.
The
Physical Planning Department Officer, Mr. Joseph Yelekpekpi assured the good
people of Tumu that, the development within the town will be carried out of
with recourse to planning regulations in order to ensure aesthetic and
accessibility within the town.
The
Physical Planning Officer, Mr. Joseph Yelekyekpi also took the opportunity to
solicit the support of the Paramount Chief and his Elders to the Assembly in
the preparations of the planning schemes and local plans to guide and direct growth
and development of the town. In response, the chief assures him of their total
support as far as it inures to the benefits of the people of the town and by
extension the Municipality.
The Tumu Kuoru in conclusion remarks, assured the
Department of his committed to the course of enforcing development control
within the Municipality and thus charged the Department to strictly enforce the
provision of the various regulations to ensure that developments within the Municipality
properly sited and all necessary documents obtained prior the development of such
properties and any structure short of that should dealt with and also demolition
all unauthorized structures.
The
Physical Planning Officer thanked the Chief and his Elders the patience
exercised their patience and
contributions throughout the course of the meeting. He further thanked and encouraged them to
continue to render their support to the Planning Authorities as far development
within the Municipality was concerned.
